WHO AM I?

My name is Gavin, and I am the owner and sole contributor to the Scotland’s Coefficient twitter page, a page that gets over 10 million impressions every single month. I am now officially a sports writer, with multiple appearances on BBC Scotland (TV, radio, and podcasts). My written work has featured in The Herald, Nutmeg, the Daily Record and various online publications, including the Hearts Standard, the Rangers Review and the Hibs Observer. My analysis has also been cited by the BBC Website, The Guardian, and pretty much every online outlet covering Scottish football.

I'm just a normal guy who enjoys researching and writing about the more interesting corners of Scottish football. That includes, but isn’t limited to, topics like the UEFA coefficient, club finances, and the Scotland national team. I’ve got a season ticket at Hampden and try to get to away games whenever family life allows.

While I don’t work in finance and I’m not a qualified accountant, I like to think I have a decent grasp of the subject, thanks to two degrees in accounting and finance, and what’s become a borderline unhealthy obsession with football finances. I earned my Masters with Distinction from the University of Stirling in 2012, with a thesis focused on analysing annual financial reports.

WHY SUBSCRIBE?

Welcome to the new home of Scotland's Coefficient!

If you’ve followed my Twitter page over the years, you’ll know the level of effort, research, and detail that goes into every post on Scottish football. I genuinely enjoy the work, and I want to continue producing content with that same level of dedication. However, for this to be sustainable, I can no longer offer it all for free. I’m now aiming to turn this passion into a source of income to help support my young family.

For the first year (February 2025 - January 2026), subscribers will pay the lowest price Substack allows for full access to all my content—previously shared for free on Twitter.

That’s just £3.50 per month, or only £20 for the year (£1.67 per month, which works out at less than 6p per day).

If this venture succeeds, my goal is to expand Scotland’s Coefficient from a one-man operation into a team of passionate Scottish football fans - producing a wider range of articles, podcasts, and videos that cover even more of the game we love.

Lastly, if you’ve appreciated my work on Twitter but can’t afford a subscription right now, please don’t hesitate to send me a direct message. I’ll sort something out for you, as I’d much rather have you on board as a non-paying subscriber than lose you altogether.
