A beginners guide to Scottish fantasy football
Scotland’s version of the popular game explained by the newest member of the ScottishFootball.info team!
There are two great Scottish Premiership fantasy games: both live now for the 2025/26 season and both are free to play and easy to pick up.
Choose a squad of 15 players, earn points from real matches, and compete in mini-leagues.
You don’t need to be a stats nerd - just follow your team, pick players you like, and enjoy the game!

WHAT IS FANTASY FOOTBALL?
Fantasy football is a fun and free way to get even more out of the Scottish Premiership. You build a squad of 15 real life SPFL players, stay within a budget, and earn points each gameweek based on how those players perform on the pitch - goals, assists, clean sheets, bonus points and much more.
It adds a whole new dimension to matchdays: one eye on your team, another on your fantasy team! You’ll expand your own knowledge of Scottish football and start taking an active interest in other teams and players.
TWO GAMES TO CHOOSE FROM
There are two main fantasy games covering the SPFL this season. You can play one or both - they’re free and easy to join.
Game One - Gaffr.io
A simple, fun fantasy game that closely mirrors FPL, the hugely popular fantasy format used in the English Premier League.
Choose your team, pick weekly captains, and play strategic “boosts” throughout the season.
Clean layout, quick to learn, and perfect for players of any level or experience including beginners and casual players.
One free transfer per week so plan your moves wisely!

🧠 Gaffr Tip:
Start with players from strong teams with good early fixtures, and keep your boosts for weeks when your full team looks strong or “double gameweeks”, when teams occasionally play twice in the same week with their players having a chance to score double points! Don’t stress over perfect picks - Gaffr is about playing the long game and enjoying the journey.
Game Two - William Hill SPFL Fantasy
This is currently the official fantasy game of the Scottish Premiership with weekly cash prizes.
The SPFL and the club accounts will be referring to this game when they post online
Includes features like Supersubs, a credit system to enhance players and points, and live player values.
A bit more advanced but great if you enjoy deeper options and flexible leagues.

Set your full squad of 15 every week to avoid score penalties. Choose a nailed-on captain from a strong team to maximise the unique 20 point bonus on top of their double points. Supersubs can be powerful, use them wisely when you expect impact from the bench.
