Brendan Rodgers is now officially Celtic’s most successful manager since Jock Stein. The 2024/25 Premiership title is his 11th trophy as Celtic manager; one more than Neil Lennon. If he wins the Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen in May it will be his 12th; with an even spread of 4 trophies in each of the 3 Scottish competitions. He now trails only Jock Stein - who won an incredible 25 trophies at Celtic. Remarkably, James Forrest can beat that number, this was his 26th trophy as a Celtic Player - making him the most decorated player in Celtic’s history.

The Celts clinched the title in typical Brendan Rodgers style at Tannadice - they have now scored at least 5 goals in each of the four games that officially won the title under Rodgers (Vs Hearts 2017, Vs Rangers 2018, Vs Kilmarnock 2024 and Vs Dundee United 2025)

55 LEAGUE TITLES

On 15th December 2024, Celtic defeated Rangers on penalties in the Scottish League Cup Final. This win was significant as it meant - for the first time since 1938 - Celtic’s major trophy count (119) was greater than Rangers’ (118). Eighty-seven years ago, Celtic had won 34 major trophies and Rangers were on 33. Celtic’s league title triumph today means they’ve now won 86 major trophies in those 87 years. They are a Scottish Cup final away from making it 87 trophies in the last 87 years.

The last fifteen years have been especially dominant for Celtic. In 2010 Rangers had won 23 more trophies than Celtic (115 vs 92), but this unprecedented period of success has seen Celtic win 14 of the last 15 titles, overtaking Rangers’ total trophy haul for the first time in most people’s lifetime. The league title is their 55th - level with Rangers - and they now have 120 trophies to Rangers 118. This season’s Premiership title win means Celtic will enter next seasons Champions League in the Playoff Round; the first time they’ve had qualifiers in four years.

However, there are of course many more clubs in Scotland outside the big two. The cumulative total trophy count of ‘All Others’ remained clear of both sides of the Old Firm until the turn of the millennium. In 2000, Rangers won the League and Cup double to go two clear on 100 trophies, compared to ‘All Others’ tally of 98, while Celtic trailed behind on 78. The hoops’ title win means they are two clear in front, with the totals now sitting at 120 for Celtic, 118 for Rangers, and 112 for All Others.
