Celtic have fallen in Champions League Qualifying, again.
Celtic become the second Scottish side to lose a tie on penalties this season
Celtic have failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League Phase, as they attempted to reach it for the fourth successive season. It would have been the first time that the Celts had a run of four consecutive seasons in the top tournament, in the Champions League era.
In fact, the hoops have only had two other periods of three or more consecutive seasons at the top table; 2006-2008 under Gordon Strachan and back in the Jock Stein era when they entered the European Cup as Scottish Champions nine times in a row between 1966 and 1974.
The penalty shootout defeat will have a substantial financial impact - at least a €15m drop in UEFA earnings, which will be explained in detailed later on.
