FSE Update On UEFA price cap ahead of FC UNA Strassen Vs Dundee United
€20 cap applies to away tickets in the Conference League
Fans Supporters Europe - “the democratic voice of European football fans” and an official partner of UEFA have confirmed to ScottishFootball.info that FC UNA Strassen are NOT in breach of the UEFA price cap on away tickets.
The Luxembourgish side host Dundee United in the second leg of Conference League Qualifying round 2 on the last day of July. Details of the 618 tickets for Dundee United fans were released yesterday, with both covered and uncovered seats available - priced at €25 and €20 respectively.
However, UEFA has enforced a cap on away ticket prices for three years now - which all clubs in Europe have to adhere to. Last year it was announced by UEFA that the cap would be lowered even further in the top two tournaments, with the €20 cap remaining in the Conference. The cap was introduced after pressure from fans groups such as FSE, predominantly to take into account the additional costs an away fan must incur when travelling to an away match.
The €25 tickets offered to Dundee United fans appeared to be in breach of this Conference League cap, so I contacted FSE - who were influential in the introduction of the cap - to check if this was the case and if anything could be done.
They have replied today, explaining that UNA Strassen’s pricing policy is NOT in breach - due to a technicality. Their response in full is below:
