Rangers have crashed out of Europe with an 2-0 loss in Spain against Athletic Club Bilbao. They felt aggrieved that there was no VAR intervention for a penalty and red card following a shirt pull on Cyriel Dessers in the first half - especially after the VAR intervention for a penalty against Rangers last week. However, over the two legs Bilbao proved a step too far for a Rangers side that will once again need broken up and rebuilt in the summer under new management.

This article contains all the stats and figures for the Scottish Clubs including:

  • Why Rangers now want Bilbao to win the Europa League

  • Rangers historic record in European knockout football

  • Coefficient impact of the loss

    • For Rangers

    • For Scotland

  • Coefficient points earned over the last 5 seasons by all Scottish teams

  • UEFA Prize money earned this season by all five teams

RANGERS RECORD IN EUROPEAN KNOCKOUT FOOTBALL

The loss was the sixth time the Gers have exited a European competition at the Quarter Final stage, from 13 ties. They therefore have now both played in - but also lost - the most European Quarter Final ties of any Scottish club. Had they progressed, Rangers fans would have looked forward to a Semi Final match against Man United, boasting a very strong record in Semi Finals - the Gers have progressed from 5 of 7 European Semi Finals, including from each of their last three.
