How does it work and what are the implications for Euro 2028 Tickets? (3 mins reading time)
NEXT TWO TOURNAMENTS
The next tournament Scotland will attempt to qualify for is the 2026 World Cup, held in the USA, Mexico, and Canada. The six qualification matches (three home and three away) take place later this year. Demand for tickets for this tournament - should Scotland qualify - is expected to be lower than for Euro 2024 in Germany, based on the travel logistics and cost.
However, the subsequent tournament will be Euro 2028, hosted in the UK and Ireland (excluding Northern Ireland, as Casement Park in Belfast will not be rebuilt in time). UEFA's qualification regulations have not yet been published, but it is widely anticipated that two spots will be reserved for the two best performing host nations that do not qualify outright. This would give Scotland a higher-than-average chance of reaching a home finals tournament - the first on these shores (with full stadiums) since Euro 1996. That also means a higher than average interest in tickets in three years time...
