ST. MIRREN SEAL A THIRD SUCCESSIVE TOP SIX FINISH!

After no top-six finishes in the top flight since 1985, the buddies have now incredibly achieved the feat for THREE years in a row! In 2020, then Chief executive and club legend Tony Fitzpatrick was ridiculed for suggesting the buddies could achieve a top half finish, but they have now proven they can achieve it - consistently - with one of the lowest budgets in the league.

Remarkably, only St. Mirren, Rangers & Celtic have been in the top 6 in each of the past 3 seasons.

Their predicted post split fixtures are below, which include an expectation that St. Mirren will have an imbalanced fixture card in their favour; 20 home and 18 away games.

CELTIC 5-1 KILMARNOCK - Celtic Park: Saturday 12:30

That's now just one Kilmarnock win away to Celtic since 1955 - a run of 86 matches. Only 2 clubs in Scottish football history have gone 50+ consecutive matches without winning away to Celtic:

  • Kilmarnock: ended a 64 match winless streak in 2012

  • Dundee United: on a current run of 50 away matches Vs Celtic without winning (38 losses & 12 draws)

It’s also six consecutive away losses for Kilmarnock - they have the worst away record in the division, taking only 9 of 51 available away points. They sit one point ahead of Dundee who occupy the relegation playoff spot, ahead of the Dee’s visit to Easter Road tomorrow.

For Celtic, they’re now just 2 points from the title - which can be clinched tomorrow if Rangers lose at Pittodrie. Their depth of squad was on show again, bringing Schlupp, Ralston, McCowan, Jota and Kühn off the bench once 4-0 up. Ralston scored the 5th - which was the 20th goal scored by a Celtic substitute in the league this season (the most in the league).

Celtic 5-1 Kilmarnock

DUNDEE UNITED 1-0 ST. JOHNSTONE - Tannadice Park: Sat 15:00

Dundee United have now won three consecutive top flight matches against St. Johnstone for the first time in 23 years, when they achieved a run of 4 wins over the Saints.

The tangerines become only the fifth promoted side to achieve 50 points before the split in the SPFL era (after Hearts 2016 - 60 pts, Rangers 2017 - 58 pts, Hibs 2018 - 59 pts, and Hearts 2022 - 57 pts). They move level with Hibs in third as they look to secure a return to European football at the first attempt following their promotion from the Championship last summer.

Dundee United 1-0 St. Johnstone

POST SPLIT FIXTURES

My expected post-split fixtures are below, and although there are several solutions the SPFL could offer, I have predicted fixtures that align with most of the SPFL’s criteria.
