NEAR 40 YEAR UNWANTED RANGERS CONCEDING RECORD - BUT THEY RECOVER FROM A 2 GOAL DEFICIT TO AVOID DEFEAT FOR THE FIFTH TIME IN TWELVE MONTHS
ABERDEEN 4-1 MOTHERWELL - Pittodrie Stadium: Saturday 15:00
Aberdeen have now won 4 of their last 5 home league matches Vs Motherwell - and that’s three home wins in a row for the Dons Vs the Well for the first time in 8 years. Their biggest league win since the 4-1 win against Dundee in November is enough to, finally, guarantee them a top 6 finish.
With 2 games to go until the split, the defeat means Motherwell drop to 8th - but are still just 1 point behind Hearts in 6th after the Jambos lost in Glasgow. Their last two pre-split fixtures are away to Kilmarnock next weekend before a potentially top-six-deciding match at home to Hearts.
For Aberdeen, they remain 4th, one point behind Hibs and 5 points ahead of Dundee United - ahead of the Tangerines’ trip to Dingwall tomorrow. Their remaining fixtures before the split are away to Ross County and at home to Rangers - 62 hours after Rangers’ Europa Quarter Final at home to Bilbao.
CELTIC 3-0 HEARTS - Celtic Park: Saturday 15:00
That’s now 14 wins for Celtic from the last 16 matches against Hearts - losing the other two 2-0 last season.
Daizen Maeda scored two goals, he's now on an incredible 30 goals this season in all competitions. His goals today means he’s now scored in every one of his last eight league starts for Celtic. It's the longest such run by any player in the division since Kevin van Veen scored in 11 consecutive starts at the end of 2023 for Motherwell. The run eclipses the seven-in-a-row that Anthony Stokes managed for the Celts in 2014.
Celtic can only win the league before the split if Rangers drop enough points - the Celts are at home to Killie and away to St. Johnstone.
For Hearts, they remain in the top six thanks to Motherwell’s defeat in Aberdeen, but have just a one point advantage over the Well and St. Mirren. The Jambos have a home match against Dundee United before ending away in the potentially crucial match at Fir Park in two weeks.
HIBERNIAN 3-0 ST. JOHNSTONE - Easter Road: Saturday 15:00
The longest unbeaten run in all four of the SPFL divisions - and the 3rd longest unbeaten league run in the UK continues - Hibs are now unbeaten in 15 league games (10 wins & 5 draws). Only Burnley and Liverpool are on longer unbeaten runs than the Hibees in all of the top 4 divisions in England and Scotland.
It’s the longest same-season unbeaten run for Hibs for 76 years, and they now have their 17-match unbeaten run from the 1948 title winning season in their sights. It’s five consecutive home league wins for the Hibees - their best since they won seven in a row at Easter Road in early 2018 under Neil Lennon.
St Johnstone haven’t managed a victory over Hibs in four matches now (3 losses & 1 draw) and have conceded in 10 of the 11 past meetings. Away form continues to be a struggle for the Saints - only one win in their last 10 away league matches, with 7 defeats.
The Perth saints - 5 points adrift at the bottom - have played a game more than Dundee above them, and now ominously have two tough matches left before the split; at home to Celtic and away to Dundee United.
ST. MIRREN 5-1 KILMARNOCK SMISA Stadium: Saturday 15:00
St Mirren ended a four year (10 match) winless run in league meetings against Kilmarnock in spectacular style, dismantling Killie 5-1 in Paisley. The win also ends the Buddies 5 match winless league run at home, which was also their longest such run in four years.
St. Mirren had their revenge on Kilmarnock F.C - and their fantastic admin on X.com - after Killie had posted the below meme after defeating St. Mirren 5-2 12 months ago:
It was the buddies joint largest ever winning margin in the SPFL Premiership, and biggest since their 4-0 win at home to St. Johnstone in 2023. It's the first time they've won while scoring five times since a 5-1 win at Tannadice in January 2021.
Kilmarnock now have the worst away form in the division, losing eight of their last 10 matches on the road. They’ve only collected 9 points away from home all season, a league low which has them in danger of slipping into the relegation playoff spot. Derek McIness’ men are only 1 point ahead of Dundee who host Rangers on Saturday evening. Before the split, Killie are at home to Motherwell and then travel to Celtic Park.
St. Mirren are making a real surge for the top six - they are up to 7th and only one point behind Hearts. They travel to Dundee next weekend before ending at home to Ross County, fixtures that give St. Mirren a real opportunity of an unprecedented third consecutive season finishing in the top 6.
DUNDEE 3-4 RANGERS - The Scot Foam Stadium at Dens Park: Saturday 17:30
THE GOOD RANGERS
Rangers remarkably overcame a 2 goal deficit to avoid defeat in the Premiership for the FIFTH time in the last twelve months.
