St. Mirren gave less than 1% of available minutes to players aged 21 and under
A new study (again) highlighted the lack of minutes given to youth players in Scotland
2nd June article update: the addition of a league average line caused the data for some of the charts to appear on the wrong line, these have been removed and will be amended next weekend when I return from holiday
The CIES football observatory has produced a study which ranks teams from more than 60 leagues worldwide, based on the percentage of league minutes given to players aged 21 or under. They’ve taken the age of the player at the time of the match, so if a player played while they were 21 - but have since turned 22 - only their matches before their 22nd birthday are included.
Their study then categorises the % of minutes given to players in four age categories (≤21, 22-25, 26-29 & ≥30). Below is the CIES raw data, and a number of charts I have created, using their data.
This article also looks at the stats of other clubs Tony Bloom is involved in, before ending with a special CIES mention for one of the brightest young talents in the league - Lennon Miller.
