SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster: “Saturday’s match between Celtic and Heart of Midlothian promises to be a memorable occasion and one for the history books. It’s been a title race like no other in our top-flight since the SPFL was formed in 2013, and one of the most dramatic in decades.
We’re expecting a truly compelling encounter for supporters both inside the stadium, and watching live on Sky Sports, and wish both clubs the very best of luck for this crucial match.”
Scottish football has reached a final-day showdown guaranteed to produce an outcome not seen in 40 years. But it has also been 40 years since Celtic last started the final day in second place and still came through to win the title.
This article looks at both long waits, including all of Celtic’s final-day title deciders, plus a video showing the expanding points gap between the “best of the rest” and the champions. It ends by putting Hearts’ potential title win into financial context against Celtic and Rangers.
