I must have seen about 100 fantasyland stories over the years regarding multi million pound takeovers at Rangers. Normally best ignored.

HOWEVER

This story regarding the owner of the San Francisco 49ers being interested in an RFC takeover appears to have a bit more smoke this time. Here are the six ‘clues’ that point to the story perhaps having some credence.

  1. Rangers AGM in December: director Alastair Johnson (based in America) states that after a meeting with Jim Ratcliffe (who owns Ineos and invested in Man United): Rangers would be interested in 'formations' i.e. multi-club ownership structure “In terms of the new CEO coming in from Manchester United, I would look for him to provide a lot of advice in that regard, and how we basically improve our bottom line by collaborating.”

  2. New CEO (Patrick Stewart) comes in, essentially says the club is a shambles but still needs an external company to carry out the review for him. Appoints Sportsology - a New York based consultancy company - to lead the review.
