A deep-dive into the Scottish history of Sevilla, after Robbie Ure joined the La Liga side

La Liga club Sevilla have signed Robbie Ure for a reported €9 million from Swedish top-flight club IK Sirius. The fee will be €6.5m guaranteed with the rest due if certain add-ons are met. The 22-year-old Scot replaces Akor Adams, who joined Venezia in July for a reported €16m plus bonuses, a club-record outlay for the Italian side.

Ure has scored 15 goals in 15 games in the Swedish Allsvenskan, 20 in 20 when goals in the Swedish cup are included. Across his 17 months in Sweden, he recorded 31 goals and eight assists in 50 competitive appearances.

That return has proven enough to convince Sevilla to shell out a hefty fee to sign their first Scottish player since Ted McMinn nearly 40 years ago. Ure will go straight into the first team squad with the number 9 shirt.

Raised in Rangers’ academy, Ure scored ten minutes into his senior debut against Queen of the South in the Scottish League Cup in August 2022. He left for Anderlecht in 2023 after rejecting a new contract at Ibrox. Most of his Belgian football came for RSCA Futures, Anderlecht’s reserve side in the second-tier, where he scored 12 goals in 38 appearances. He made only one first-team appearance at Anderlecht.

Sirius signed him in March 2025 on a four-year contract, in what was widely viewed as a step backwards for the young striker. However, Ure has shown the importance of regular game time, and has turned that ‘one step back’ into three steps forward. Being provided the opportunity to show his talent, he has thrived and his form in the Swedish top-flight has earned Robbie Ure a move to one of Spain’s most historically Scottish clubs.
