WELCOME TO FANTASY FOOTBALL!
Are you interested in joining the Scottish Fantasy Football Community?
A NEW FEATURE ON THE WEBSITE
The Scottish league season for 2025/26 starts this weekend, at long last. Ahead of the new season, I’m launching a new feature on the website with its own dedicated section - FANTASY FOOTBALL.
Specific section unsubscription instructions are at the end of the article - if you do not want to receive fantasy football emails.
There’s a massive community of 11 million people that play the English Premier League Fantasy Football game. If you’ve never played it before then essentially, you create your own team by picking real life players, using a set budget - then earn points based on those players’ actual performances in real matches.
If a defender has a clean sheet, or a player scores or assists a goal = points gained.
If your player gets sent off or concedes loads of goals = points lost.
You set your starting XI each week from a squad of 15 players, then are able to make transfers for the following week, bringing in a player that you think will do well while transferring out someone that hasn’t been getting you returns. The result is you end up taking much more of an interest in the matches, as you want to see ‘your’ players gaining points in games you ordinarily wouldn’t have an interest in. It can be good fun.
Personally, I am one of those 11 million that play English Premier League fantasy football, but have never played a Scottish equivalent. Until now.
SPFL FANTASY TIPS
I’ve joined forces with a very impressive social media account called SPFL Fantasy Tips. They are a new account, that will be posting regular data-driven tips focusing only on the Scottish fantasy game, giving you fantastic stats based insight into which players you could pick for your team.
I’ve met with the person behind the account this week and have decided that they will be joining the team at ScottishFootball.info - you will see their username on the Byline at the top of any future articles they post within the “Fantasy Football” section of the website. Everything they post will always be available to all ScottishFootball.info subscribers - including free subscribers - as we look to build up a community of players over the coming seasons.
We will be creating a free to join league - on the website gaffr.io and I’d love it if you could join us - especially if you’ve never played the game before!
SPFL Fantasy Tips will start by giving us newbies a run down of how the game works, followed by their exclusive and original content with advice on picking your team each week.
UNSUBSCRIPTION INSTRUCTIONS
If you are not interested in Fantasy Football - and will definitely never be interested, no matter how hard I try - then you can unsubscribe from the fantasy football emails, without unsubscribing from everything else I post.
I will demonstrate how to do this (in three easy steps), using my own settings and subscriptions to other sites.
1.) Click your username logo at the top right of the website and then click settings
2.) Go to your subscriptions and find my page
3.) Toggle off the “fantasy football” section. You can toggle this, or any section, at any time. Posts will still show for you on the website, underneath the fantasy football section.
To everyone that wants to be involved, watch out for articles explaining the game and instructions on how to join the league, coming out over the next few days!
Make sure to follow SPFL Fantasy Tips on twitter too:
