Will a Scotsman Make the Ballon d’Or List for the First Time in nearly 40 Years?
Scott McTominay has already secured the Serie A player of the year award
Scott McTominay played a vital part in securing just the fourth Serie A title in Napoli’s history. His 12 league goals broke Denis Law’s record for the most goals scored by a Scotsman in a single Serie A season, while he also notched 1 in the Italian Cup, as well as providing 6 league assists in his 34 league matches. He arrived too late for the opening game, before starting all but 1 league match in the Blues league winning campaign.
Of his 12 league goals, 8 of them were the opening goal - which was more than any other player in the Italian top flight. McTominay aka “McFratm” (McBro) was named Serie A's Most Valuable Player (MVP) for season 2024-25. He joins an illustrious list of winners of the award (below), and as a result is likely to join the below 37-strong list of Scottish Ballon D’or nominees - which would be the first for nearly 40 years!
